Auckland’s Best Street Food

I absolutely love street food. We are very lucky in Auckland as we are spoilt for choice when it comes to street food. There are many food trucks and stands offering a wide variety – think bao, dumplings, fried chicken, vegan burgers, tacos, sushi in cones, egg waffles, milk and cookies and gelato to name a few. Below, I have rounded up my favourite food trucks and food stands around Auckland, so that you can go out and enjoy them as much as I do! JUDGE BAO Back in 2015, I wrote a blog post – 5 Reasons Why I Love Judge Bao. Everything I wrote in the post remains the same – the owners, Debbie and Jamie are so down to earth, very welcoming and passionate about their product. Their bao is delicious and I enjoy trying their new creations and love seeing them at various food festivals and markets. Judge Bao make soft and fluffy Chinese steamed buns filled with mouthwatering tofu, pork belly or beef (and sometimes fish and chicken), fresh herbs …

Georgieats’ London Food Guide

Following on from my 15 Best Things to Do in London post, check out my London Food Guide below! #1  Broadway Market Held every Saturday, Broadway Market is the best market I have been to in London and in the world to date. While it may not be the biggest market, it sure does have every cuisine you can think of, every treat you can imagine, and the street vendors are super friendly and passionate about their products. It is THE market for ultimate food heaven. We enjoyed Haggis Scotch Eggs, Haggis Toasted Sandwich, Mini Meringues from Meringue Girls, a French/Caribbean vegetable stew and a Berliner custard cream doughnut.  Other market highlights include: Mediterranean salads, tomatoes in all shapes and colours, olives, olives, olives, Ciabatta sandwiches (with fillings like salami and brie), ethnic dishes and salads, homemade pies, sausage rolls, rainbow bagels, falafel and Japanese satsuma chicken. Plus, the array of sweet treats in general – think German fruit cheesecake, S’mores chocolate cheesecake, French pastries, sweet tarts, apple and cinnamon strudels, epic looking fudge, bounty brownie, …

IMAGINE… 1 dozen HOT Original Glazed Doughnuts. A Chocolate, Vanilla or Caramel Thickshake. An Apple Crumble Doughnut filled with Custard. A Chocolate Iced Doughnut with Sprinkles. Doughnuts which look and taste like our iconic Vanilla Slice. A Choc Honeycomb Shake with Whipped Cream and Chocolate Sauce.  Kookies N Kreme Doughnuts. An Original Glazed Shake with Whipped Cream and a Mini Doughnut.  If any of the above salivates your tastebuds, then you will love the new arrival of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, which has just landed in New Zealand! In fact, the first flagship store opens THIS WEDNESDAY (28 February) at 3 Ronwood Avenue in Manukau. The event kicks off at 8am, and the first 100 people in the queue receive 1 dozen Original Glazed Doughnuts! Gold Coast Eats

If you are looking for a short, relaxing break, then I highly recommend the Gold Coast. There are beautiful beaches, shopping, and of course, many places to eat and drink. The last time I visited the Gold Coast was 6 years ago, before my obsession with food started, before I even had Instagram or my blog. On that trip, we enjoyed going to the theme parks and beaches. Fast forward to this year, I have made a few trips to the Gold Coast – mainly to relax, try out the food scene and for the first time, visit Byron Bay and the surrounds. Below, I list my favourite eats in the Gold Coast and beyond. I have listed them by area, so it makes it easier for you when you visit the Gold Coast! Enjoy! Main Beach Local & Co First things first, BEST Nutella Thickshakes EVER!!! Secondly, after reading great reviews on TripAdvisor and the fact that Local & Co was just round the corner from where we were staying in the Gold Coast, …

Gerome, Parnell

Gerome is the latest newcomer to Parnell’s dining scene, occupying the space where the famous Iguacu used to be. This new restaurant is serving up beautiful modern Greek food, matched with an elegant dining experience and friendly and attentive service. Three of us dined here last week for a special birthday, and we were very impressed.

Amano

Heads up bakery lovers, there’s a new joint in town! Introducing the latest venture from the talented Hip Group – Amano bakery. Located in Britomart, you can now get your daily fix of artisan breads, sandwiches, sweet treats, pizza by the slice and salads. I visited Amano last week for lunch and was excited to try out their offerings. Walking in, I loved everything about this new bakery – the well-stocked small space, the heavenly smell of freshly baked bread, the clever design and hanging wheat feature (look up when you step inside), the friendly and welcoming manager I chatted to while I was there and the  staff member who didn’t mind explaining each offering and the ingredients used, as I seriously couldn’t decide on just one thing! So, I ordered a slice of pizza, a salad and a choux pastry bun. The pizza by the slice was high on my list – it is not like traditional pizza, as it is made by slowly fermenting the dough, and is more in the style of focaccia bread. The salami, provolone …

Borough Market, London

Borough Market = amazing!!! An absolute must if you are a foodie fanatic (like myself) or love trying out new foods! We visited Borough Market on our last day in London – luckily my appetite was back, because the food options here are outstanding, both in presentation and taste. You’ll find fresh fruit and vegetables, pungent cheeses, savoury breads, cookies the size of your hands (see picture below), sweet treats, handmade chocolates and ice cream. And if that doesn’t satisfy you, there is ethnic food available (for example from the ‘Soul Food’ and vegetarian Indian stands), super tasty pies (Pieminister), haloumi burgers (The Veggie Table), salted caramel doughnuts (Bread Ahead Bakery) and fresh juices and smoothies. While I would have loved to have tried one of everything, I was craving a pie. Pieminister were serving the most delicious array of pies, plus they use free range meat and chicken and have two vegetarian options. I went with the ‘Free Ranger’ consisting of chicken, ham hock, leek and thyme, while my sister ordered the ‘Classic Moo’ …

Little & Friday Tuckshop

When I think of food heaven, the first place that comes to mind is Little & Friday. Think doughnuts filled with creme patisserie and raspberry coulis, ‘Baci’ cakes made with hazelnuts and chocolate, plus gourmet pies and sausage rolls like you’ve never seen before. And thankfully, for those who are studying/working or playing in the CBD, you can now get your Little & Friday fix right on Durham Lane! The concept of this new store is different to their cafes in Belmont and Newmarket, in that everything is made for takeaway, just like a ‘tuckshop’. They’ve got cute and eco-friendly packaging too – delicious salads and homemade meals (like lasagne and ratatouille) are served in takeaway containers, while their doughnuts, cakes, pies, sausage rolls and brioches are served in paper bags. They do however have a table and bench seats outside for those who like to ‘eat in’ and it’s also a chance to people watch (one of the weird activities I like to do!) Last week I had lunch there – it was delicious! I …
