Lucky Buddha Eatery

Since its opening in 2015, Lucky Buddha still remains one of my favourite eateries in Auckland. It is situated on Fort Street, which is fast becoming a foodie mecca, with the likes of Ima Cuisine, Miann and Beirut and around the corner, my favourite ice creamery, Giapo. The first time I dined at Lucky Buddha, I didn’t quite know what to expect, but after learning that the owners are Korean, the head chef is Filipino and that they are serving Asian fusion cuisine (namely Japanese, Korean, Thai and Filipino), I was really excited. I have since dined at Lucky Buddha four times, and each time has been a very memorable foodie experience. The food is fresh and flavourful, and the cocktail list and service is excellent. Below, I list my favourite dishes and drinks at Lucky Buddha. For food, I recommend the following: Sriracha Pork Steamed Buns filled with tender pulled pork, fresh herbs and a cracker spicy peanut sauce. Go Green Expo + Better Food Fair

Today I attended the Go Green Expo, which is New Zealand’s largest sustainable lifestyle show, held at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland. The show covers everything related to organics, eco home and living, beauty, health and wellness, and of course, your chance to try delicious healthy food and beverage products. I have been going for the last few years and it is always a fun day out! This year also saw the new addition of the Better Food Fair with stalls selling street food and drinks from organic, paleo, vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, and raw vendors. I tried dishes from Judge Bao, House of Dumplings, Soul Boul and Nitro Cow. Along with sampling food related products and trying yummy dishes, the Go Green Expo and Better Food Fair are also holding seminars and workshops. Workshops and seminars that sound interesting on Sunday are the Plant-Based Everyday Workshop with Buffy Ellen of Be Good Organics (tickets here, includes a 90 minute workshop, goodie bags and three recipe demonstrations), La Boca Loca – ‘Making free tortillas at home’ seminar (included in your ticket) …

AndSushi

Thanks to The Denizen, I was super excited when I read that a new sushi bar had just opened up in Newmarket. And even more so to find out that as well as serving modern style and creative sushi, a range of Japanese and Korean dishes were on the menu as well – my favourite cuisines! Plus an awesome beverage list – think Kokako cold brew coffee, Daily Organics kombucha and Cocoloco coconut water. Now, this sounded like my kind of place! Fast forward a few months where I have been frequenting &Sushi on the weekends, with the aim to try everything on their mouthwatering menu. So far, my favourites have definitely been their sushi – every piece is beautifully presented and has some surprising decorations, like edible flowers, wasabi creams and strawberry slices! Each roll is clearly marked with the ingredients and some of their sushi is vegan and vegetarian. Their purple rice sushi with cream cheese, salmon and topped with avocado and pink wasabi cream is a clear favourite, as well as the sushi pockets filled with perfectly chopped salmon and avocado pieces. Revive Vegetarian Cafe

Revive is one of my favourite lunch places in Auckland’s CBD. I have been coming here for about five years now and I love their delicious vegetarian salads, dahl, curries, soups and many other dishes! Here is a taste of what you might find on their menu: – Revive Raw Salad with beetroot, carrot and mint – Israeli Couscous with pumpkin, homemade aioli and green beans (I am not a pumpkin fan, but this salad makes it surprisingly taste good!) – Moroccan tagine with chickpeas on brown rice – Leek and feta frittata with potato and free range eggs – Mexican ‘not chicken’ and bean stew on brown rice… and so much more! Revive also sells smoothies and great lunch box snacks which you can purchase at the counter – their bliss balls are moorish! Little Bird Unbakery

Earlier this year, Little Bird Organics announced that they would be opening a third unbakery in Britomart. I was really excited about this as I work in the CBD, which makes it more convenient to get my raw/vegan/health food fix during the working week – bonus! They are serving the same dishes as their Ponsonby and Kingsland stores, just a smaller selection. For breakfast, you’ll find chia bircher muesli, chia bowls, raw bagels, and even mousse! For lunch, think pad thai, bibimbap and bird bowls. And last but not least, their amazing raw vegan desserts – slices, cheesecakes, cookies and tarts. The only difference is that everything is served in takeaway containers. As well as their delicious food, they are also serving their new range of cold pressed juices, plus nut milks and tonics. These are all bottled, so are easy to grab while on the run! You can also purchase a range of their goodies, including their raw macaroons (so so good), homemade ‘grawnola’ and savoury crackers. Eight at The Langham

I have been to the buffet at Eight three times now. Each time has been excellent! My most recent visit was a few months’ ago when I took my older sister for lunch for her birthday. Once I had explained to her the ‘Eight’ different themed kitchens and how it works, she was super excited. You basically take your seat (definitely recommend booking a table and arriving early), then when the kitchen opens, you can eat as much as you wish from any of the following ‘Eight’ stations: 1. Seafood & Oyster Bar – think prawns, oysters, mussels and fish (orange roughy, snapper, tarakihi, salmon and many more). 2. Sushi & Sashimi Bar – my absolute favourite station with endless amounts of freshly made sashimi, sushi, miso soup and you can have as much ginger and soy sauce as you like! 3. Indian Tandoori & Curry Kitchen – we tried the paneer curry, beef vindaloo, butter chicken and homemade naan bread. 4. Wok & dim sum corner – they serve steamed buns, dumplings and noodles. …

The Food Show, Auckland

  I don’t know about you, but every year I get very excited about the Auckland Food Show, held over three days in July/August at ASB Showgrounds. I love it because it gives you a chance to meet all your favourite product owners, try new foods, take home free samples/goodie bags and taste, taste, taste! Last year, I discovered The Lucky Taco at The Food Show and it is definitely one of my favourite foodie experiences to date! Delicious tacos in either a corn or flour tortilla plus an agua de horchata (sweetened, iced rice milk infused with cinnamon) and you’re all set for the day! I attended the show on Friday and was instantly surprised at how much bigger the event was compared to last year. I was also excited to see that many new companies have popped up over the last year and that really gave me a chance to talk to the owners about their product, which is what I really love. My new favourite products that I tasted included the Deluxe Hot Chocolate by West Coast Cocoa, Coconut Flour …
