The Chocolate and Coffee Show 2017

Hands up who loves Chocolate? And/or Coffee? How about Cupcakes, Gelato, Desserts and Espresso Martinis? Me! And I am sure a lot of you who are reading this also put your hand up! Today, I attended The Chocolate and Coffee Show, held at The Cloud on Queen’s Wharf, a show which celebrates everything indulgent – from boutique chocolatiers and artisan coffee roasters, to producers of tasty treats. There are also talks and cooking demonstrations by chef Julie Le Clerc, chocolatier Karl Hogarth and Homestead chef Sam Mannering, various masterclasses you can participate in – barista skills, cupcake decorating, a chocolate and tea tasting workshop and a Milse Pop-Up – woohoo! You can also check out the winners of the very first New Zealand Chocolate Awards. I had a really fun experience today, so I have rounded up my favourite coffee, chocolate and tasty products that I came across/tried at the The Chocolate and Coffee Show. If you have any questions about the products, feel free to ask! If you are heading to the show tomorrow, have a great time! …

Georgieats’ Auckland Food Guide

I get asked almost every day what my favourite dinner spots are, where to have breakfast in Auckland CBD, where I go food shopping and of course, what are the best desserts in Auckland. So, I have decided to start my own Auckland Food Guide.

UberEATS has arrived in Auckland

IMAGINE… A 1 litre tub of Valrhona dark chocolate, caramel and brownie gelato. Fresh chia seed crusted tataki salad. Crispy kimchi pancake. Bandito burrito with slow roasted beef barbacao. Mean Joe Green Bagel with free range bacon, avocado and tomato. 8 assorted macarons. Prawnbroker shrimp bites. Clay Pot Caramelised Pork Belly. Malabari Prawn Curry. Plant Power Nachos. Soft Shelled Crab Bun. and Southern Fried Jerk Chicken… all delivered straight to your door. If any of the above salivates your tastebuds, then you will love the new UberEATS app which has just arrived in Auckland! The UberEATS app allows you to order your favourite dishes online from over 70 participating eateries, which will then be delivered straight to your home/office. Simply download the UberEATS app on your phone (both iOS and Android), login with your same Uber account details, put in your address, and a list of eateries will show up which can deliver to your area. Delivery is available between 8am to 10pm, meaning you can order your day’s breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert! Some of my favourite eateries …

Rosie, Parnell

I am in love with most of the Hip Group eateries, including Milse, The Store, Ortolana and Amano, so it is no surprise that I am now loving Rosie, a busy cafe and restaurant located near the Parnell Rose Gardens. Rosie has been around for quite a while now (almost three years!), so I am a bit late to the party. Having just moved nearby, I thought it high time I check out this popular eatery. So far, I have really enjoyed their coffee, their specialty Valrhona house hot chocolate and more recently, their brunch fare. Their food menu is European based, with all their produce either locally sourced or grown on the owners’ farm in Kumeu. Most of the dishes are not your usual brunch fare, so it is the perfect time to step outside the box and try something different. You will find dishes such as roast peach panacotta, smoked fish omelette, homemade crumpets, lamb and kumara sausage with poached egg, stuffed eggplant and chargrilled scampi. We particularly enjoyed the following: – Sprouted bread with smashed egg, courgette and …

2016 Foodie Highlights

2016 was a great foodie year! I tried new dishes (at Tiger Burger and Judge Bao), I tried a new food truck (Temaki Truck), there were many foodie events (Auckland Food Show, Taste of Auckland, Seafood Festival, Food Space, streetARTdego and Auckland Night Noodle Markets to name a few), my favourite dessert bar (Miann) opened a second branch and I travelled to many wonderful places (Sydney, Fiji, all around Spain, London, Dublin and Edinburgh). Check out my list below for my 16 favourite foodie highlights of the year. Click the links after each to find out more. Enjoy! From left to right (main image above): Miann This year, Miann opened their second store (YAY) and in my favourite area – Britomart! Just like their Fort Street store, they are selling their beautifully presented gateaux, gelato sticks, macarons and handcrafted bonbons. The point of difference is the larger, brighter and airier space. My favourites so far include their Bombe Alaska dessert, the 55% Itakuja gateaux with dark chocolate, passionfruit, coconut and lime (pictured above) and the peanut butter …

Miann Britomart

Heads up dessert lovers, chocoholics, and gelato stick/macaron fans, Miann has just opened up their second store in Britomart!

If you are any of the above, then I guarantee you will love Miann, a sophisticated dessert bar and patisserie in Auckland CBD.

Paris Eats

Following on from my Paris Photo Diary post, check out my list below for my favourite eateries in Paris! As you will see, they are mainly patisseries (I have a mega sweet tooth), but I have also included two fine dining restaurants, two great vegetarian eateries and of course, ice cream.  EATS Stohrer – If there was only one thing I could do in Paris, it would be to eat all the beautiful pastries and sweets found in every neighbourhood. At the top of my foodie list was Stohrer. This place is special because it is the oldest patisserie in Paris. I recommend ordering a Millefieulle and a Tartlette aux Fraise, which were perfect in every way! Location: 51 rue Montorgueil L’Eclair de Genie – Head here for decadent eclairs and you will be transported into sweet foodie heaven. Nearby is the Luxembourg Gardens, which is the perfect place to devour these works of art! I recommend their double chocolate eclair with gold dusted dark chocolate… dreamy! Location: 13 rue de l’Ancienne Comédie KONG – If you feel like splashing out …

Dessert Degustation Walking Tour

Dessert. My favourite word and my favourite meal. And what better way to celebrate it with a walking dessert degustation held in the Heart of the City? I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a Tuesday night! Held as part of Auckland’s Restaurant Month* and with support from Auckland Transport, this Dessert Degustation Walking Tour is a brand new addition to Restaurant Month and one event that I have long been waiting for! We met the lovely food and travel writer, Delaney Mes, who was our host for the evening, at Aotea Square, and spent the next two hours walking through the city’s laneways, and shared spaces, and devoured three sweet delights (and a fabulous cocktail) at Giapo, Cornerbar, Miann and Milse. Our first stop was Giapo. This iconic ice cream shop opened in 2008 by creative genius, Giapo Grazioli (pictured below) and his wife, Annarosa, and still remains one of my favourite places in Auckland’s CBD. Their ice cream is different to that of the normal ones you would get at a dairy – Giapo’s are like works of art. I …

Sydney Travel Diary

Sydney is one of my favourite cities. I love it because it is alive and vibrant any time of the day, it is very multi-cultural (think a vast range of delicious foods and products to buy) plus the views are always stunning, whether you are walking through Sydney National Park or are standing on top of Sydney Harbour Bridge. I also love that there are so many things to do, and everyone is catered for, whether you are into shopping, being out on the water, trying new foods, keeping active or just relaxing on a beautiful beach (I love Bondi and Bronte). Check out the list below of my favourite foodie places (with recommendations), shopping, and activities in Sydney: EAT I haven’t actually been to many restaurants, as we usually eat at food courts or markets, but there is one restaurant that we always revisit, namely Mama’s Buoi, a modern Vietnamese restaurant in Surry Hills. We love the rice paper rolls, vermicelli noodle salads and they also serve T2 teas. 116 Devonshire Street, Surry Hills On our most recent trip to Sydney, we planned to …
