Meat Fish Wine

Last week, I was invited to dine at Meat Fish Wine to try their five course degustation menu, matched with local and international wines. We had a fantastic night, thanks to the beautiful food, wine, ambience and service. Meat Fish Wine is located on the corner of O’Connell and Chancery Streets, making it a great central spot for dining. The menu changes seasonally, focusing on fresh New Zealand produce, in particular meat and fish, and it has one of the largest wine lists in New Zealand. With over 500 wines to choose from, hand-picked by a Sommelier, you are truly spoilt for choice. Walking in, the interior is stunning. We loved the inviting bar area with plush seating, the large heritage windows overlooking O’Connell Street, the open plan kitchen (with adjoining chef’s table), the unique bathroom (don’t leave without taking a peak!), the luxurious private dining rooms (named Waiheke, Rangitoto and Kawau) and most impressive of all, the chandelier display of over 2,000 Riedel wine glasses shaped to reflect a Hei Matau or traditional fish hook. Lucky Buddha Eatery

Since its opening in 2015, Lucky Buddha still remains one of my favourite eateries in Auckland. It is situated on Fort Street, which is fast becoming a foodie mecca, with the likes of Ima Cuisine, Miann and Beirut and around the corner, my favourite ice creamery, Giapo. The first time I dined at Lucky Buddha, I didn’t quite know what to expect, but after learning that the owners are Korean, the head chef is Filipino and that they are serving Asian fusion cuisine (namely Japanese, Korean, Thai and Filipino), I was really excited. I have since dined at Lucky Buddha four times, and each time has been a very memorable foodie experience. The food is fresh and flavourful, and the cocktail list and service is excellent. Below, I list my favourite dishes and drinks at Lucky Buddha. For food, I recommend the following: Sriracha Pork Steamed Buns filled with tender pulled pork, fresh herbs and a cracker spicy peanut sauce. Velvet Burger, Federal Lane

Up until last month, I had never tried Velvet Burger, despite the burger brand being around since 2006. So, when my Christchurch-based cousin mentioned that Velvet Burger do a 2-for-1 deal every week, I rushed to their Fort Street store, keen to try out their burgers – and I loved them! Now, thanks to the Cook Brothers Bars, who own and operate Velvet Burger (as well as the likes of The Glass Goose, Fort Street Union and La Zeppa), a second branch has opened in Auckland’s CBD, conveniently located near the Sky Tower, in Federal Lane. The new Federal Lane store offers indoor and courtyard dining, table service (there is only counter service at the Fort Street branch) and an express lunch option. I was fortunate to dine here last week and I loved it – from the menu, to the open kitchen, the hanging lights in the courtyard and the friendly staff. Zomato Blogger Meetup: Le Chef

We are truly spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out in Auckland, in particular the CBD. But I suppose there is one cuisine which is lacking – French. Thanks to Le Chef, that void has now been filled! At Le Chef, they are all about using fresh and seasonal produce and you can sample their delicious food for breakfast, lunch and dinner! On Monday night, I dined at Le Chef, as part of Zomato’s Blogger Meetup. It was lovely being in the company of four other bloggers – Carli from The Enthusiastic Cook, Maddy from Madicatt, Genie from Bunny Eats Design, Laura from Laura Laura and a huge thank you to Chanelle from Zomato for organising the event. We were there to sample dishes from Le Chef’s dinner menu, as well as a few preview dishes from their upcoming Friday event, La Longue Table Du Chef*. Cafe Hanoi

Cafe Hanoi is one of my all-time favourite restaurants in Auckland (along with Depot and The Federal Delicatessen). And why you may ask? Because the atmosphere is buzzing, the service great and of course, their south-east Asian and Vietnamsese food is always full of flavour and presented well, no matter what you order! I have dined at Cafe Hanoi on several occasions – dinners with friends, family birthdays and work functions. It is definitely the perfect place to celebrate something special. And if you are feeling fancy, they also have a private dining room as well. I love that there is something for everyone on the menu, whether you are into spice, are vegetarian or like to share dishes with your dining companions. La Cigale French Market

If you are looking for something fun to do on a Saturday or Sunday morning and which involves lots of delicious food, then I highly recommend checking out La Cigale French Market in Parnell. It is undoubtedly the best market in Auckland. Here’s a taste of what you may come across at La Cigale: – Delicious coffee, macarons and croissants just out of the oven – Rotisserie chickens, gooey croque monsieurs, breakfast buns and other savoury delights – Delectable tarts (my favourite being the Frangipani tart with rhubarb and pistachio) and eclairs from Amadine – Freshly made juices, plus smoothies from The Organic Mechanic – Muesli and chia seed bowls from The Vital Bowl – Various international foods like paella, crepes and gozleme – Freshly baked bread, smoked fish, fruit and vegetables – Tasty dips, Turkish bread, wraps and fresh dates – And you probably wouldn’t believe it but there is a stand near the entrance selling every dog treat you can imagine! Eight at The Langham

I have been to the buffet at Eight three times now. Each time has been excellent! My most recent visit was a few months’ ago when I took my older sister for lunch for her birthday. Once I had explained to her the ‘Eight’ different themed kitchens and how it works, she was super excited. You basically take your seat (definitely recommend booking a table and arriving early), then when the kitchen opens, you can eat as much as you wish from any of the following ‘Eight’ stations: 1. Seafood & Oyster Bar – think prawns, oysters, mussels and fish (orange roughy, snapper, tarakihi, salmon and many more). 2. Sushi & Sashimi Bar – my absolute favourite station with endless amounts of freshly made sashimi, sushi, miso soup and you can have as much ginger and soy sauce as you like! 3. Indian Tandoori & Curry Kitchen – we tried the paneer curry, beef vindaloo, butter chicken and homemade naan bread. 4. Wok & dim sum corner – they serve steamed buns, dumplings and noodles. …
