Auckland’s Best Street Food

I absolutely love street food. We are very lucky in Auckland as we are spoilt for choice when it comes to street food. There are many food trucks and stands offering a wide variety – think bao, dumplings, fried chicken, vegan burgers, tacos, sushi in cones, egg waffles, milk and cookies and gelato to name a few. Below, I have rounded up my favourite food trucks and food stands around Auckland, so that you can go out and enjoy them as much as I do! JUDGE BAO Back in 2015, I wrote a blog post – 5 Reasons Why I Love Judge Bao. Everything I wrote in the post remains the same – the owners, Debbie and Jamie are so down to earth, very welcoming and passionate about their product. Their bao is delicious and I enjoy trying their new creations and love seeing them at various food festivals and markets. Judge Bao make soft and fluffy Chinese steamed buns filled with mouthwatering tofu, pork belly or beef (and sometimes fish and chicken), fresh herbs …

Melie’s Kitchen Fudgy Rocky Road Cookies

I have never met a cookie I didn’t like. There are so many delicious ones. Chocolate chip, Nutella, oreo marshmallow, peanut butter, white chocolate macadamia, snickers, salted caramel, chocolate cookie sandwich, fortune cookies and s’mores to name quite a few. And now, I have a new favourite cookie… a Fudgy Rocky Road Cookie! Thanks to Amelia Ferrier of Melie’s Kitchen, an 18 year old Aucklander who makes beautiful cakes (you can order them from her website here). Last year, she held a demonstration and cookbook launch at Collected, where we watched her decorate one of her amazing cakes and there were samplings afterwards. Of course, I couldn’t leave without buying her cookbook, entitled ‘Melie’s Kitchen‘ which is filled with recipes for her wonderful cake creations, cookies, slices and pastries. I love all the recipes in her cookbook, in particular the Fudgy Rocky Road Cookies. The mix of dark chocolate, almonds and marshmallows sounded delicious. Melie says in her book that you will love these cookies because of their fudgy and chewy texture, and the marshmallows toast beautifully on top, while the almonds give …

Best Ever Chocolate Chip Cookies

Making chocolate chip cookies has always been my favourite weekend activity. It is a chance to unwind from the working week and bake something delicious for family and friends. I have made numerous cookies over the years, but this recipe always seems to come out on top, hence the ‘Best Ever’ title. The recipe below comes from a favourite cookbook of mine, Gran’s Sweet Pantry by Natalie Oldfield, but I have tweaked it slightly, for example, the recipe originally says to bake the cookies for 15 minutes, but I like mine chewy in the middle, so I bake them for 10-12 minutes. Makes approximately 24-30 cookies. Best Ever Chocolate Chip Cookies Ingredients 2 cups plain flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate buttons, roughly chopped 180g unsalted butter, slightly melted 1 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup white sugar 1 egg 1 egg yolk 1 teaspoon vanilla essence Method Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Grease and line two (or three if needed) baking trays. Set aside. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, salt, …
