Hapī is WOW.
Their ethos “you are what you eat” and that “physical and mental wellbeing is a true reflection of how you fuel your body” rings true to my New Year’s Resolution for this year, so I was really excited to check out this cute cafe, while on holiday in Napier.
At Hapī, their food is plant based, full of nutrients and very delicious. If you are vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, dairy free or just love eating one or all of the above, then Hapī is your place! Their menu is extensive – for such a small cafe, they sure have a range of everything on offer. Their cabinet display is also one of the best I have seen in New Zealand, with all the food well presented and the staff continuously preparing all the goodies just behind the counter. I could literally stand there for ages, watching them make sandwiches!
For breakfast, there are Acai and raw granola bowls, tofu scramble, omelettes and eggs your way on their beautiful paleo bread.
For lunch, you can choose between a myriad of things – fresh sandwiches, wraps, salads, tacos, nachos, frittata, zucchini noodles, and vegan curry.
Last but not least, sweet treats and desserts! They have raw slices, Paleo cake, bliss balls, tarts, cheesecake and dairy-free Cocowhip ice cream. Plus a huge range of drinks – smoothies, cold pressed juices, fresh nut mylks, Hawthorne coffee, organic teas, superfood hot chocolates (ooooh) and Hapī chai.
We visited Hapī on three different occasions and enjoyed the following: Vegan Taco ($7), Raw Zucchini Noodles ($10), Raw Chili Nachos ($12) and Raw Vegan Wrap ($10). The highlights were the Vegan Taco – spicy, but delicious, and the Raw Vegan Wrap – who knew raw food could taste so good?!?!
The other dishes we tried were tasty, plus are served on compostable plates/in containers, so they’re perfect for takeaway (picnic by the beach!) and friendly to the environment.
But, the thing I loved most about Hapī was its prices. Up here in Auckland, we pay a bit for raw vegan food, but Hapi is really affordable and knowing you were still getting a healthy, wholesome and filling breakfast or lunch is awesome.
The food, service and atmosphere at Hapī is spot on. If I lived in Hawke’s Bay, it would be my go-to! Highly recommend.
Note: If you can’t make it to their cafe in Napier, every Sunday, Hapī have a stand at the Hawke’s Bay Farmers Market where you can sample their nut mylks, cheese and Paleo bread, and purchase raw treats, slices and kimchi.
Each time we’re in Napier, we want to go there, but for some reasons we never did yet! Definitely next time! Your photos are amazing:)
